Once you have locked up to your photos and videos, you can’t access them unless you unlock them. To unlock them, just tap on the “Unlock” button:
Google says that this feature is for people who want to keep their photos and videos safe but still want to be able to access them from devices they own or use. If you want to keep your photos and videos private, then this is the feature for you!
How to Delete Locked Photos and Videos from Google Photos
If you’ve ever locked a photo or video in Google Photos, you know that you can’t just delete it like you can with other files.
Here’s how to delete locked photos and videos from Google Photos:
1. Open Google Photos on your computer.
2. Click the three lines in the top left corner of the main window.
3. Click Settings.
4. Under “General,” click Advanced.
5. Under “Photo and video settings,” click Lock photos and videos.
6. Under “When someone tries to access a photo or video,” select one of the following options: Delete: Remove the photo or video from your account and make it unavailable to others. Keep it if you want to keep it but make it inaccessible to others. Never: Never allow anyone to access the photo or video, even if they have your account password.
7. Select one of the following options under “When someone tries to access a locked photo or video.” To allow everyone who has access to your Google Photos account to view the locked photo or video, leave this setting as Always. To allow only those people who have been added as collaborators on the photo or video (see below) to view it, choose Add collaborators. If you want to allow only certain people who have been added as collaborators on the photo or video to view it, choose Select collaborators.
8. Under “What happens if someone tries to access a locked photo or video that’s not mine?” select one of the following: Always allow anyone with the account password to view it. If you want to add an extra layer of security, choose Require account password for viewing. Choose Hide if you just want to keep the photo or video hidden from everyone but yourself.
9. Click Save changes.
10. Close Google Photos.
How to Encrypt Your Photos and Videos in Google Photos
If you’re like most people, you probably store your photos and videos on your phone or computer. But what if someone stole your phone or your computer was stolen? Wouldn’t it be great if you could encrypt your photos and videos so that no one could access them unless they had the right password?
In this article, we’ll show you how to encrypt your photos and videos in Google Photos. First, open Google Photos on your phone or computer. Next, tap the three lines in the top left corner of the app. Then, tap Encrypt Photos & Videos. (If you’re using a mobile device, press and hold on a photo or video to select it, then tap Encrypt.) In the Encrypt Photos & Videos dialog box, type in a password to protect your photos and videos. Finally, tap Encrypt. If everything goes well, you’ll see a message saying “Your photos have been encrypted.”
If something goes wrong while encrypting your photos and videos, go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Phone. After resetting your phone, try encrypting your photos and videos again.
How to Share Locked Photos and Videos with Others
If you’re looking to share photos and videos that are locked in Google Photos, there are a few different ways to do it.
One way is to send them as an email attachment. Another is to share them through a link. And finally, you can also save the photos and videos to a Google Drive folder for others to access.
Here’s how to do each:
Sending Locked Photos as an Email Attachment
To share a locked photo as an email attachment, first, open the photo or video in Google Photos. Then click the three lines in the top-left corner of the photo or video, and select Share > Email.
In the “To” field, type the email address of someone you want to send the photo or video to. In the “Subject” field, type a brief message about why you’re sharing the photo or video. (For example, “This is a locked photo I just wanted to share with you!”) In the “Body” field, type your message and then click Send.
Sending Locked Photos Via a Link to send a locked photo as a link, first, open the photo or video in Google Photos. Then click the three lines in the top-left corner of the photo or video, and select Share > Link.
In the “To” field, type the email address of someone you want to send the photo or video to. In the “Subject” field, type a brief message about why you’re sharing the photo or video. (For example, “This is a locked photo I just wanted to share with you!”) In the “Body” field, type your message and then click Send.
Saving Locked Photos to a Google Drive Folder
To save a locked photo or video to a Google Drive folder, first, open the photo or video in Google Photos. Then click on the three lines in the top-left corner of the photo or video, and select Save > To Drive.
In the “Drive” field, choose which Google Drive folder you want to save it to. (If you don’t have any Google Drive folders set up, you will be asked to create one.) Then click Save.
You can also share a locked photo or video by sending a link to it instead of saving it to a Google Drive folder. To do this, first, open the photo or video in Google Photos. Then click on the three lines in the top-left corner of the photo or video, and select Share > Link.
In the “To” field, type the email address of someone you want to send the photo or video to. In the “Subject” field, type a brief message about why you’re sharing the photo or video. (For example, “This is a locked photo I just wanted to share with you!”) In the “Body” field, type your message and then click Send.
Google Photos’ Locked Folder is now available on various Android devices
If you’re one of the many people who rely on Google Photos to store all your photos and videos, you may be interested in knowing that the Locked Folder feature is now available on various Android devices. This new feature allows you to password-protect a specific folder in your photos and videos so that only certain people or devices can access it.
To use this feature, first, open Google Photos on your Android device. Then, tap the three lines in the top left corner of the app screen (see Figure A). From here, you can choose which folder you want to password-protect. Next, enter a password (eight characters minimum) and tap OK (see Figure B).
Once you’ve locked down the folder, anyone who tries to access it will be required to enter the password you specified. Note that you can also add users to this directory by tapping Add User at the bottom of the Locked Folder screen (see Figure C). Once users have been added, they will be able to access all of the files and folders within the Locked Folder.
If you ever forget your password for a Locked Folder, don’t worry—you can reset it by tapping Reset Password at the bottom of the screen (see Figure D). Doing so will delete all the files and folders within the Locked Folder, but you can easily re-add users by tapping Add User again.

How to access media in the locked folder
If you want to keep your photos and videos locked up in Google Photos, there are a few things you can do. First, open the Google Photos app and tap on the three lines in the top left corner. Next, select Settings from the menu. Finally, find the section called “Lock Media.” Here, you can choose to lock media by date or location.
How to hide photos and videos in Google Photos on Android
If you want to keep your photos and videos private, you can lock them up in Google Photos. This will hide them from anyone who doesn’t have the app installed on their device, and it will also protect them from accidental deletion.
To lock photos and videos in Google Photos:
1. Open the Google Photos app on your Android device.
2. Select a photo or video to open it on full screen.
3. Tap the three lines in the top left corner of the screen. (If the photo or video is locked, you won’t be able to see this option.)
4. Under ” privacy,” tap ” lock.”
5. Type a passcode to protect your photo or video. (You can also choose to hide this photo or video forever.)
6. Tap ” OK.”
